We like to have a sealed bottom so it can\u2019t become a sheltered home for ant critters<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(diagram II)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/hutsbypete.files.wordpress.com\/2022\/12\/scan-14-page-2.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-130\" width=\"613\" height=\"355\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The main supporting wood is called a floor joist. Thats the 2&#215;4, 2&#215;6, or even 2&#215;8 thick wood that carries all the weight. Note the wood piece is not actually 2\u201dx4\u201d, its 1 \u00bd x 3 \u00bd. A 2&#215;6 is 1 \u00bd \u201cx 5 \u00bd \u201cand a 2&#215;8 is 1 \u00bd x 7 \u00bd \u201c.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(Diagram III)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/hutsbypete.files.wordpress.com\/2022\/12\/scan-14-page-3.jpg?w=451\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-131\" width=\"163\" height=\"369\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>If you plan on building this hut to keep in one place on the ground, we suggest putting treated wood or concrete support on the ground with an air space under that\u2019s at least 6 inches. Your support for the deck should be on the four corners minimum. We like putting a 4 x 4 skid plate (of the length) on a 12 foot 144\u201clength<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;(diagram IIII ).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/hutsbypete.files.wordpress.com\/2022\/12\/scan-14-page-4-1.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-145\" width=\"534\" height=\"425\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>an extra support in the middle help stop bounce if lots of weight is inside&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(diagram V)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/hutsbypete.files.wordpress.com\/2022\/12\/scan-14-page-5-1.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-147\" width=\"540\" height=\"354\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Assembly -deck<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let\u2019s assume you\u2019re using 2 x 6 treated lumber- you need 12 pieces, and if you space the joists so there is a piece 16\u201c.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(Diagram VI)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/hutsbypete.files.wordpress.com\/2022\/12\/scan-14-page-6-1.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-149\" width=\"544\" height=\"432\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The key that is important if you\u2019re using plywood is that a sheet is 4\u2019 x 8\u2019. At the seam \u00bd of the joist should support the end of the sheet<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(Diagram VII)&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/hutsbypete.files.wordpress.com\/2022\/12\/scan-14-page-7-1.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-151\" width=\"560\" height=\"379\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>That means 3\/4 inches of the plywood edge to screw into the joist when you mark the spacing with a tape measure. Try to be exactly in the center on the 4\u2019, 8\u2019 etc joist so you have an enough wood to screw in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If we cut the joist to a length that is 3\u201d less than the total width. To cut them straight a square and pencil work well (but a block that is straight even a book can mark it well)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(Diagram IX)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/hutsbypete.files.wordpress.com\/2022\/12\/scan-14-page-9-2.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-155\" width=\"601\" height=\"462\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>After cutting one with an accurate angle in length you can use it as a pattern to cut the rest. On the Long and joist also called a belt or rim joist Mark with an accurate angle in space one side of where the shorter joist gets screwed in. Some people Mark both sides that\u2019s (1 1\/2 inch)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(Diagram X have screws)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/hutsbypete.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/scan-14-page-10-2.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-156\" width=\"603\" height=\"400\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Sounds tricky but if you remember to have screws in the middle of the joist that\u2019s 3\/4 of each side of the center. You can pre-drill the Three screw holes for each choice, but the new torque screws don\u2019t need to be pre-drilled<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Put one screw 1 inch+ down from the top, one in Center, 1 inch+ from the bottom.
